Reports in Italy are suggesting Newcastle boss, Alan Pardew is keeping tabs on Taye Taiwo’s situation at AC Milan as he looks to ease his sides defensive worries following a spate of recent injuries to key players.
The Magpies had been linked with a move for Taiwo earlier this year, as were a handful of other Premiership clubs, but the 26 year-old eventually decided to leave Marseille and join the Rossoneri on a free transfer in the summer. The left-back has failed to make an impact though, making just 2 Serie-A appearances for the Milan giants which has raised speculation over his future again. Reports in Italy suggest that Pardew may look to take the defender on a loan deal in January until the end of the season by offering €1m with an option to buy in the summer.
Pardew’s tight defence has been fundamental to Newcastle’s great start to the season which has seen them hovering around the top of the table. But injuries to Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Cheik Tiote and Danny Guthrie have rocked the Toon’s defensive spine. However, Pardew is hoping to have Coloccini and Tiote available in the near future, whereas Guthrie will miss 4-6 weeks and Taylor the remainder of the season.
Taiwo is an experienced international who’s collected 48 caps for Nigeria. Known for being a dead-ball specialist with a powerful shot, Taiwo’s addition could help to overcome Newcastle’s injury concerns and free up the versatile Ryan Taylor who is currently being used as a left-back for the Toon.
