Alan Pardew is looking to bring yet another Frenchman to Tyneside this summer, according to The Mirror.
The Newcastle United manager already has a French quartet amongst his ranks. Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux were all brought in from the French leagues, whereas Manchester United reject Gabriel Obertan made the move from Lancashire.
While Ben Arfa and Cabaye have been unbridled successes, Marveaux’s debut season in England has been blighted by injury, and Obertan is still finding his feet in the Premier League.
The latest player being linked with a move to St James’ Park is Geoffrey Kondogbia, who plays for recently relegated Ligue 2 outfit Lens. The 19 year-old has represented France at Under-16, 17, 18 and 19 level and the defensive midfielder’s form this season has caught the eye of some top European clubs.
According to The Mirror’s report, Roma and Napoli are understood to be keen on Kondogbia, which could mean a three-way battle is on the cards for the £2 million rated youngster.
