The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that they will finally see the best of Paul Pogba next season. The Frenchman has yet to truly settle at Old Trafford, and not even the arrival of Nemanja Matic has been able to improve his form.
It makes sense for Man Utd, then, to do all they can to ensure that Pogba is given the best conditions to succeed, and our landlord thinks that by signing Mateo Kovacic, they’d be making a brilliant start.
A creative midfielder, the Croatian – who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt – would be able to link up brilliantly with the more defensive Nemanja Matic, but in particular, he’d be of real use to Pogba.
His arrival would reduce the onus somewhat on Pogba’s creative focus. Kovacic would be able to ensure more focus on creating attacks with his impressive passing and crossing, whilst Pogba would be able to focus on doing what he does best. Specifically, running towards defences and driving the ball towards goal. More broadly, the pair would be able to combine together to create offensive magic – instead of all of the reliance being on Pogba himself.

The problem at Old Trafford at present is that Jose Mourinho has been forced to rely on a couple of players to do much of the damage. For example, the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, and of course, Pogba. If Kovacic were to arrive, that would all change – not to mention the fact that he’d be an excellent addition regardless.
He hasn’t had enough chances to make much of an impact in Spain as of yet, but the talent and incredible potential is all there.
