Pique Hints At Audacious £35m Bid

Reports coming from the Daily Mail today have suggested Jose Mourinho is ready to launch an audacious £35million bid to prize the Spanish starlet from The Emirates.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer and was even forced to wear a Barca shirt by his World Cup winning Spanish team-mates. However, any deal for Fabregas collapsed as the Catalan club were priced out of the market.

But now, Jose Mourinho is ready to make a swoop for the central-midfielder pitting them head to head with their La Liga rivals. “The Special One” could see Cesc as a perfect partner for former Liverpool centre midfielder Xabi Alonso and has asked Madrid officials to pull out all the stops in attempting to sign the 23-year-old.

However, former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique has added to speculation that Barcelona are yet to give up in their pursuit of the Arsenal midfielder.

‘Playing in this Barcelona team is a joy, because of the football we play and the good people who wear the shirt,’ he told El Mundo Deportivo.

‘It would be nice to see my friend Cesc playing at the Camp Nou.’

Arsenal still maintain that their star player is not for sale at any price, but should a bidding war spark between the two Spanish clubs, bids reaching £50million could start turning heads at The Emirates.

Fabregas signed an eight-year contract at Arsenal in 2006, committing the then 19-year-old to the club until 2014. This has proved to be quite a stumbling block in the past as the North London club can inflate the midfielder’s price to ward off potential predators.

It’s highly unlikely Fabregas will leave The Emirates in January but he is yet to rule out any move to La Liga. Regardless of the 23-year-old’s desire, he may have a lengthy wait before he will be allowed to leave. It would take an monster bid to loosen Arsenal’s grip on their star player, but injuries to their Spanish star and incredible form of Samir Nasri may make the London club think twice should any offer be made.

I’ll file this under “unlikely”, but if it was to happen, it would be huge.
