QPR defender set for MLS

Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we did not think the situation could get much worse for Harry Redknapp and his club QPR, but with the news coming out of Sky Sports, it seems we were wrong.

Skipper and vital defender Ryan Nelsen looks to be on his way out of Loftus Road to take up a managerial post in the MLS with Toronto FC. For the centre back who has been just about the best thing in the struggling team bar Adel Taarabt, it is a huge blow to Redknapp.

The manager reluctantly accepted Nelsen’s stance stating: “He wants to be a manager and it is a chance for him to manage a club. He has been fantastic. I took him to Tottenham last year from Blackburn. He’s one of the best pros I’ve ever met in my life, a fantastic player, a great trainer. He is a massive part of your team. To lose him would be a massive blow for us.”

QPR still have a mission on to escape relegation this term, having won just two of their 21 Premier League games since the season began, but the Hoops enjoyed a morale boosting performance last time out – an unlikely 1-0 victory over West London rivals Chelsea with former Blues midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips scoring the crucial goal.

Do you think Nelsen leaving is the final nail in the coffin for QPR? Vote in our polls below.
