Harry Redknapp is in our conversation here at the Football Transfer Tavern more than Mario Balotelli and news emerging from the Daily Mail claims that the manager is set to launch a raid for defender Christopher Samba.
The Congo international made his name in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and is known for his physical and commanding presence at the back – something QPR are in deep need of given their form this season and also the departure of Ryan Nelsen who is taking up a manager’s role with MLS outfit Toronto FC.
The centre back is currently plying his trade for mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia but has unfortunately had to face up to racism in the nation stating to The Sun back in April last year that the case was: “The saddest thing that has ever happened” to him in his career.
Nevertheless the player later claimed: “I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Russia and although I was of course angry at the racism incident, along with the rest of the football world, racist issues here are no different to what I have experienced in other countries.” The Daily Mail note that Anzhi would be reluctant to sell the player but would ask for around £10 million and if QPR were also willing to match the salary Samba is currently on at £100,000-a-week, a move could well go through.
Can QPR lure Samba back to the Premier League? Rate this rumour below.
