The winger spent a long and very successful spell at Old Trafford and became a firm fans favourite in Manchester, not to mention it was the club he won his only Ballon d’Or at leading many to suggest he will one day return. The Portuguese international recently stated in an interview with FIFA.com that he was willing to see his contract out in Madrid until 2015 but where he ends up after this remains to be seen.
It had been mooted that his next move could encompass a return to Old Trafford but David Gill however has distanced the club from a move for the player, claiming: “He is a brilliant player but he is contracted for the next two-and-a-half years at Madrid.”
Gill also spoke about the upcoming meeting between Ronaldo and United in the Champions League knockout stages stating: “We are looking forward to welcoming him back, he will get a great reception at Old Trafford in early March and that is all we have got to say.”
