West Ham are set for Championship football next season and it looks as though all their star players won’t be joining them. Harry Redknapp is planning on raiding his old club for Scott Parker and Robert Green to fill out his Tottenham Hotspur squad.
The Football Writers’ Player of the Year, Scott Parker has been linked with Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal this season after being the only shining light in West Ham’s dreadful season. The England international is a top target for the Spurs boss who acknowledges it will be a challenge to bring him to White Hart Lane.
“Well, he’s a good player, a top player, Footballer of the Year this year,” said Redknapp.
“I’m sure people are going to be interested in Scott. I know a couple of other clubs are interested, big clubs, but we’ll wait and see”
Spurs will need to bolster up the midfield in order to gain a top four finish again and Parker’s work rate and knowledge of the game would be a great asset to have. The midfielder has earned his way into Capello’s set up this season and was one of the best players in the win over Wales, proving himself on the big stage.
Robert Green is another West Ham player being linked with a move to the Lane. With the dreadful form of Heurelho Gomes in recent months, it looks as though he might be shipped out and England’s World Cup flop might be brought in as a replacement.
There is no doubt that Parker would be a fantastic acquisition in the fight for a Champions League spot next season but Green is just not of the standard. The keeper has already proved he cannot cope on the big stage and is prone to a blunder himself just like the outgoing Gomes. Redknapp would be much more inclined to go for Shay Given who is looking for a new club this summer.
Spurs will believe that West Ham stole the Olympic stadium off them and this could be their payback. Tottenham will be the best team in the Europa League next season and will be looking to finish in the top four once again. West Ham will have to watch out this summer, whereas for Spurs, the future looks bright.
