The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern still aren’t really sure as to what the future will hold. Indeed, though Rafa Benitez has so far remained as the club’s boss, the punters propping up our bar always get nervous when it comes to summer windows under Mike Ashley’s ownership.
As you can imagine, the drinkers clad in black and white are desperate for some good news on the transfer front and, while it’s barely a new signing, reports from the Northern Echo have actually proven fairly promising. They claim that Benitez is expecting to hear a much-needed transfer update from managing director in early June.
With that merely days away, perhaps the wheels could be in motion on Tyneside. Last season, the Magpies waited a while to make a move and were left missing out on targets, so hopefully Charnley – who has often invoked the ire of the Geordie faithful – can deliver the 58-year-old some good news at last.
If Newcastle are going to right the wrongs of last year, they need to act quickly. Charnley needs to prove his worth in his role and get both fans and the manager on board early on – especially with the World Cup around the corner – so it’s a big few days for him.
Hopefully, for everyone involved, there’s some good news to come.
