After a disappointing season that will see Manchester United record their worst-ever Premier League points total, regardless of how the campaign finishes, the club’s fans are nervously eyeing the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have multiple glaring issues across the pitch that need urgent attention, particularly in goal and up front, as Ruben Amorim’s side has struggled with both leaking goals and failing to find the net week after week.

A number of players have already been linked with potential moves to Old Trafford, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha, who is reportedly in talks with the club, and Atalanta BC forward Ademola Lookman, the reigning African Footballer of the Year.

To make room for these arrivals, some players will undoubtedly have to leave, and speaking to the press over the weekend, Amorim hinted strongly at his summer plans. He revealed that he already has a clear idea of who will be staying and who will be shown the door come season’s end.

Asked if he knew who he wants to keep or sell, the Portuguese boss responded: “I have an idea, that is clear because we have to do things early [in the window], but things can change before the end of the season.”

Amorim: Casemiro could stay at Old Trafford

One player who may be set to stay at Manchester United, somewhat surprisingly, is Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

The former Real Madrid star, who joined United for £70 million in 2022, was set to Old Trafford in January after being ostracised by former manager Erik Ten Hag in the early stages of the season following a string of lacklustre performances.

However, since Ruben Amorim took over from the Dutchman, Casemiro has re-established himself in United’s first team, playing a starring role in their 1-1 draws with both Arsenal and Manchester City.

Speaking about the five-time Champions League winner and his potential future at the club, Amorim hinted that due to his recent good form, Casemiro could now see out the remainder of his contract at Old Trafford, which expires in the summer of 2027.

“Casemiro was a player who wasn’t playing, and then, you see the last games, he’s been part of the team, performing quite well, and playing regularly,” said Amorim, adding: “I like to change my mind, and if they change my mind, I’m really happy with that. I just want to win and put the best players in my team.”
