Harry Redknapp has had an “enormous” bid rejected for Marseille striker Loic Remy, according to talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old hit-man has been a long term target of the Tottenham boss and footballtransfertavern.com covered his interest just two weeks ago when Redknapp put a golfing day on hold and paid a personal visit to watch Remy in action against Lille at the Stade Velodrome. The Frenchman impressed on the night scoring both goals in Marseille’s 2-0 victory.
Vincent Labrune, Marseille’s Chairman, revealed the club had rejected an enormous offer from Spurs when he spoke to French tabloid L’Equipe.
He said, “In January I have two deals to manage.
“That of Lucho (Gonzalez), who wanted to leave, and that of Remy, who Tottenham wanted to sign.
“I do not think any other president in France would have refused the enormous proposal the London club made.”
Spurs offer is believed to have been in the region of £18m. Redknapp now appears to have turned his sights to signing Everton striker Louis Saha before tonight’s close of the January transfer window, BBC Sport have revealed.
The real question to be asked is do Spurs need to sign a new striker or do they simply need to coordinate a better supply to their existing ones? Adebayor might not stay, this is true. But aside from an initial flurry even his goals have dried up.
