Samba deal set to shatter QPR’s wage structure

samba.jpgThere are a few raised eyebrows inside the Football Transfer Tavern following the news bought to us by Sam Wallace of The Independent concerning a potential signing for QPR.

Harry Redknapp is set to press ahead with a £12.5 million move for Anzhi defender Christopher Samba, just six months after his predecessor Mark Hughes pulled out of a move for the big centre back claiming his wage demands were too high.

Any move for the former Blackburn man is set to smash the clubs wage structure, with Samba currently on a six figure weekly salary after bonuses in Russia.

During the summer QPR were being asked to pay around £65,000 to £70,000 a week, including bonuses, to bring the player to Loftus Road, a move that Mark Hughes deemed as far too expensive.

But Redknapp is keen to make the deal happen today, knowing that he will soon be without Ryan Nelsen who is set to join MLS side Toronto as player-coach.

Redknapp has already spent big during this transfer window, signing striker Loic Remy for £8m and offering the forward wages of £80,000 a week.

The move will be seen as something of a gamble, but if it means survival for QPR it will prove to be money well spent.
