Reports in Italy suggest Serie A giants Juventus are preparing a bid for Manchester United winger Nani. Though different websites are reporting differing transfer fees, the best bet would be a figure of around £25m.
Juventus are looking to rebuild themselves after a terrible year in which they finished seventh in the league and eventually sacked manager Luigi Delnieri.
Legendary Juventus midfielder Antonio Conte has taken the reins and immediately invested significantly in the squad squad – spending more than £50m in the process.
Highly-rated Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal has been drafted in from Bayer Leverkusen along with the fantastic siging of Andrea Pirlo on a free transfer from AC Milan.
The Turin club are in the market for a left-sided midfielder and had been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay before the Dutchman was injured.
There has been talk that Manchester United signing Ashley Young would unsettle Nani, though it seemed more likely that Antonio Valencia’s place will be under threat.
This was until the Ecuadorian signed a deal today that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2015.
Though Young occupied Nani’s left-side flank for Aston Villa and England, Nani’s productivity ought not be undervalued. His 13 goals and 17 assists were essential to United’s title bid.
Nani has been linked with both Milan clubs as well as Bayern Munich this summer. The stature of these clubs confirm that the Portuguese wide man is highly regarded around Europe, and therefore, in the event of any exit from Old Trafford, Alex Ferguson will be confident of securing an inflated fee for the player.
A tempter for Ferguson maybe that any fee in the region of £30m could be used directly to finance a move for Inter’s Wesley Sneijder, whilst also creating space in the team to accommodate all the side’s best midfielders.
With Young on the left, Valencia on the right, Sneijder in the centre alongside either Fletcher, Giggs, Carrick or Park, United’s midfield would be formidable.
