Sir Alex Ferguson may have wished to chosen his words more wisely as they seem be very close to having come back to haunt him.
Once described as ‘noisy neighbours’, Ferguson has finally retracted on what he once said and has conceded City now have enough man power to finally rival their neighbours. City have never been taken seriously by United as serious contenders, but with United looking to capture their 20th league title this season, City could well stand in there way.
The club has never posed such a threat to United since the Premier League was set up and now they have more of an incentive to stop United achieving another title.
With the likes of Nasri and Aguero joining the City ranks and with David Silva looking like a player that could easily walk into any team, Man City look like a team with a real assertiveness about them, and on any given day have enough ability and power to annihilate teams. Just ask Tottenham fans.
Ferguson admitted the rise of City has come as no shock, “I’ve said all along that would happen” responded the Scot, “They are a good team and they were always going to be there or thereabouts”.
With Fergie’s men lying one place above City at the top of the table (only by goal difference) and with Liverpool on the agenda in their next game, which in honesty is a fixture that hasn’t been to kind to them of recently, ‘ we have been poor there of late’, admitted Ferguson.
This is a real chance for City to overtake their neighbours and put their stamp on the table and send a real message to the rest of the league they mean business.
