After recently confirming the signing of Stuart Armstrong from Celtic, Southampton could soon announce a second summer addition in quick succession.
According to Sky Sports, the Saints have agreed a £16m deal with Basel for Mohamed Elyounoussi. The 23-year-old is likely to replace attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic, who is set to join Ajax for £18m.
Having missed out on James Maddison to Leicester City, Southampton fans will be delighted with the acquisition of £7.65m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Elyounoussi. The Norway international scored 14 goals in 45 games last season while putting in some impressive displays in the Champions League.
Saints Supporters will be hoping Hughes can add further to his attack after a lacklustre campaign in front of goal. A new striker on top of Elyounoussi and Armstrong could round up a good transfer window.
Charlie Austin’s injury record, in addition to Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long’s struggles when it comes to hitting the back of the net, means bringing in a centre-forward should be made a priority once the deal for Elyounoussi is concluded.
Take a look at Southampton fans’ thoughts on Elyounoussi’s likely arrival at St. Mary’s below…
