Spurs defender can stay at Sunderland – for now

Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we are firm fans of Danny Rose and via The Mirror, news has reached our ears that the youngster has been told he can stay at Sunderland after this season.

Before Spurs fans reach for the shots, it must be stated that it is only on loan again, with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas feeling that the player is one for the future and is far too good to be sold. He does however recognise that Rose needs first team experience and understands that he would struggle to gain this at Spurs at present.

The England Under-21 international has flourished at Sunderland and has become an ever present in Martin O’Neill’s side, with both his parent club manager and loan club manager heaping praise on the youngster.

AVB claimed that eventually: “Our objective is to bring Danny back to the club. We believe in him a lot.” Of course this was not exactly music to O’Neill’s ears with the Black Cats boss then quipping: “I was really disappointed he said that. A lot of things can change – if we put an offer of £38 million that might change things, I think he would taxi him up here! At the moment Danny is doing very, very well and in many respects it is helping Tottenham.”
