Finnish international and former Tottenham midfielder Teemu Tainio is in talks with MLS side New York Red Bulls with a view to joining in time for the beginning of the American season in March. The combative Tainio is currently at Ajax, but has not featured regularly for the Amsterdam club, making only two league appearances since signing last September.

New York Red Bulls, home of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, are reportedly keen to offer the holding midfielder a two-year deal, and Ajax are ready to let the Finnish international leave on a free. A move to America could prove highly lucrative for Tainio, who is edging towards the end of his career.
A former fan favourite at White Hart Lane, the popular Finn made up for a lack of technique with a fantastic work rate and tireless commitment. After playing mainly in Martin Jol’s Spurs side, Tainio fell out of favour under Juande Ramos and moved on in 2008 to Sunderland. Having proved useful cover at right-back at the Stadium of Light, the determined midfielder left England last year to take his place in the Eredivisie with Ajax.
