Spurs stopper set for MLS

We at the Football Transfer Tavern have expressed sadness at the news that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is set to leave the club according to The Mirror.

The Italian who has been one of the top keepers around during his lengthy spell in the Premier League – first at Chelsea then at Spurs, has decided that he wants to end his career in Major League Soccer after falling further down the pecking order at Spurs.

Cudicini could be described as one of the best bench warmers in the world, being usurped by Petr Cech at Chelsea and then Brad Friedel and Hugo Lloris, at Spurs. The Italian now wishes to end his career actually playing football. As our landlord outlines, at LA Galaxy he will also be linking up with former team mate in striker Robbie Keane.

At 39, Cudicini is looking for one final contract and LA Galaxy are willing to offer a two-year deal on the maximum salary allowed by the club’s current cap. Cudicini has struggled to get playing time since a horrific motorcycle accident and feels a final swansong in America is the perfect way to finish his career.

Is this a wise career move from Carlo? Vote in our polls below.
