Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we have been keeping a close eye on the fortunes of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku who is currently on loan at West Brom. Our punters have been wondering if parent club Chelsea would recall the Belgian hitman in January, but according to The Sun, the player is set to stay at the Baggies.
Steve Clarke’s side have been flying high in the league and Lukaku has been a large part of that success, with the former Chelsea coach even leading his side to a victory over the Blues this term. The 19-year-old claims that he not only wants to stay until the end of the current season but also for next season as well!
Lukaku struggled to get chances at Chelsea and despite his hero Didier Drogba encouraging him, the player has declared that he would “rather be a Baggie than a Blue” leaving Rafael Benitez’ side with only Fernando Torres as a recognised striker.
For Clarke’s side, Lukaku has netted six times in five games and claimed that: “for me, it’s very important to play week-in and week-out because at 19 you want to develop — and I hope to be one of the great players in the Premier League. That’s my ambition, but I have to be patient as well. I can learn a lot here. I can improve.”
The 19-year-old clearly feels that he would be better off developing his craft at West Brom than his parent club who could well be bringing in the most coveted prize in football this January in Radamel Falcao, once again pushing the player down the pecking order.
