Most of our punters are still talking about the failed moves for David Villa and Alvaro Negredo here at the Football Transfer Tavern yet after a rather interesting article in BBC Sport, we are looking ahead to the summer.
In the run up to the January transfer window and indeed during it, most of the focus was on Radamel Falcao and his future. The Atletico Madrid forward has been linked to a host of clubs and seemingly expressed his love for every league going. He has now claimed that the Premier League has: “a lot of significance worldwide.” Atleti may have been able to keep hold of the player for now, but come the summer he looks to be one the move from the Vicente Calderon.
It is not just the Colombian international striker who may be saying good bye to La Liga however with Iago Aspas and Isco also making serious headlines due to their form. Isco may have penned a new deal but this only added a bigger release clause of almost £30 million and better wages – not any extension to the length. The more cynical of us here in the tavern can’t help but feel this is more to protect Malaga when the player does eventually leave. Aspas is also on the radar of a host of clubs and could well be heading to a team near you in the summer.
Not only are we reflecting on players who may well be on borrowed time in La Liga but it seems that our punters are aroused by the speculation regarding the future of David De Gea and the chance of him joining Barcelona as a replacement for Victor Valdes.
