Leeds United are a team on the up this season. After years of disappointing performances in the Championship, which have kept them out of the English top-flight since 2004, it seems the club are managing to mount a legitimate promotion push.
Their new Argentine manager, Marcelo Bielsa, deserves all the plaudits for the sides change of fortunes having instilled a sense of footballing pride back into West Yorkshire. Aptly named ‘el Loco’, Bielsa set about introducing a military-style training programme to bring his team up to pace, and the results are certainly showing. Both the positive and the negative.
Of course, where there’s no doubt that Leeds are looking better than they have in some time, the team have been plagued with a torrent on injuries as a result of their efforts. Key players, like record signing Patrick Bamford, forward Kemar Roofe, young prospect Jamie Shackleton, and Spaniard Pablo Hernandez, have all been on the injury list at some point.
With this in mind, here are two loan signings that could be brought in to bolster the side…
It’s well documented that Marcelo Bielsa has earned the admiration of two of the best managers in the footballing world, Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino. Indeed, Bielsa has already benefited from his relationship with Guardiola, who has sent out one of Manchester City’s best young prospects, Jack Harrison, out on loan to Leeds this season.
Keeping in with this theme, we believe it would be an excellent move to bring in young Tottenham Hotspur prospect Kazaiah Sterling. The forward is one of the highest rated individuals in the development system, and has turned out for the first team on a few occasions.
By virtue of ability, Sterling should be considered by Bielsa; he’s quick, agile, extremely physical, and possesses great predatory instincts. And, combined with the simple fact that Leeds have had to dip into their own youth team to cover all the injuries they have in the forward position, there is no reason why Bielsa shouldn’t call up one of his admirers for a help in hand.
Foyth has recently been linked to Spurs by media outlet AS Argentina, who report that Bielsa is very keen on signing his compatriot, come January, to bolster his defensive options. The young defender has recently earned himself a call up to the international squad, although he didn’t play in either of their games.
Again, this is a case of Bielsa taking advantage of his relationship with Pochettino. There’s clearly talent there, and a willingness to move, so we’ll just wait to see if this one materialises…Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
