The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Antonio Conte will leave the club this summer. Though the Italian was a popular man amongst our resident Blues earlier this year, Chelsea’s recent run of results has caused fans to turn on their manager, and many are already thinking about who could succeed him.
Fortunately, there are some incredible managers in Europe, and earlier this week, the Blues were linked with just one example in the form of Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim by Yahoo Sports.
Indeed, though the 43-year-old doesn’t yet have the reputation of a top boss, our landlord thinks that he could be just what Chelsea, and more importantly Roman Abramovich, will be looking for.
After all, on a basic level, his results over the years have been very impressive. Despite having to deal with stringent budgets, he’s been able to compete well both in France and in European competition, and that’s a testament to his quality. Given that Chelsea haven’t spent as freely as they did shortly following Abramovich’s arrival as of late, his ability to impress with a small budget will go down well with Abramovich.
He’s also been fantastic for the development of young talent, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and even Chelsea’s own Tiemoue Bakayoko impressing under his tutelage. Abramovich will no doubt be desperate for the Blues’ academy to bear fruit, and his track record speaks for itself.
You also must look at his style of play. He’s not a defensive manager. Instead, he often produces exciting, non-stop offensive play – and that’s something that the Russian Chelsea owner has wanted at Stamford Bridge for a very long time.
In truth, he ticks all of the boxes, and so if Conte is to leave, a move for Jardim makes great sense.
