Both TuttomercatoWeb and The Sun are reporting that England international icon David Beckham is being lined up as a marquee recruit. The midfielder is out of contract with American MLS side LA Galaxy and wishes to continue playing.
The 115 cap legend is showing incredible determination to remain involved in the England national team proceedings and Tony Fernandes believes brokering a deal for Beckham will reignite the player’s ambitions and chances to be involved in the 2012 Olympics setup.
So would it be a good deal with Neil Warnock and QPR?
With Beckham’s current deal expiring, he will be a free agent on January 1st 2012. This will leave him with a plethora of options to choose from and while there will be no transfer fee, you’d probably want to shield your eyes from the wage and image rights he still commands even at 36.
The wealth of experience and training ground presence he would bring are simply incomparable to 99% of others. There is a reason why he has been moving on loan to AC Milan in recent years during the MLS off season and that is because he’s still got it.
He’d be a morale booster. He’d be a positive addition if QPR are flying and a potentially season saving addition if QPR are slumming it at the bottom of the table. Providing his wages aren’t out of control, there will be so many clubs after his signature in January.
It remains to be seen, of course, where he will play and where he will choose to live. He’s got 4 kids in Los Angeles and so it won’t be a purely footballing decision. QPR would be mad not to go for him, as would almost every other Premier League club?
What do you think of Beckham? Still got it or well past it?
