The latest player to be linked with Arsenal is Udinese forward, Luis Muriel, who has been dubbed the ‘Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo’.
According to the Daily Mail, the £8 million-rated forward is on the radar of a host of Europe’s top clubs including AC Milan, Barcelona and Juventus.
However, it seems Arsene Wenger has been suitably impressed with the 20-year-old after hearing rave reviews from his scouts.
Muriel has shone whilst on loan at Leece this season, scoring five goals in a struggling side. He also scored four goals at the under-20 World Cup last year.
The Colombian is in the process of applying for a Spanish passport, which would negate any work permit problems and although he has no international appearances, he could be granted one on the grounds of ‘exceptional talent’.
Muriel has been likened to the Real Madrid forward due to his strength and speed, as well as his powerful dribbling ability. The report suggests that Udinese will want at least £8million for the striker, who they signed for £1.25million less than two years ago.
Another potential problem is that his previous club Deportivo Cali still own 30% of his rights, which could cause complications in any move to the Premier League.
I am not sure whether this story has any real legs to be honest. Muriel is definitely a very exciting young player, but Arsenal have a few of them already, especially in the wide-forward roles. I would expect the the Colombian to stay in Italy, perhaps at Udinese, or maybe at one f the bigger clubs.
He is suited to the Premier League’s style, and I’m sure Arsene Wenger knows a lot about him. If he did sign Muriel, the most likely course of action would be that the youngster remain on-loan in Italy to build up experience.
