Tottenham to finally land £15m target?

Only last week here at the Football Transfer Tavern we were discussing the potential swoop by Tottenham Hotspur for Internacional’s Leandro Damiao and report this could well happen soon.

The Brazilian international has long been admired by both Spurs and manager Andre Villas-Boas with the player believed to be available for around £15 million. Internacional are willing to offload the striker during their off season which as our landlord points out, handily coincides with the January transfer window.

Spurs are looking to push for a top four place this season and are also looking strong in the Europa League – a competition which AVB takes very seriously, having won it with Porto in 2010/11. The club have been after Damiao for two years now and feel this is the time to strike in order to finally land the player.

The 23-year-old finished top scorer of the football tournament at the London 2012 Olympics, netting six times and certainly has the so-called Samba flair running through him. Because of Emmanuel Adebayor’s last minute U-turn to play in the inconveniently timed African Cup of Nations for Togo, Spurs will be short of a forward going into the busiest period of the fixture calendar and feel Damiao could well boost their goal tally.

The player – who has earned 14 caps for Brazil looks set for a move, with his agent claiming: “While Leandro Damiao stays at Internacional, Tottenham will always be interested. Andre Villas-Boas has liked him since he was Chelsea’s manager.”

Do you think Damiao will make the move to White Hart Lane? Vote in our polls below.
