Transfer nightmare could see Man United catch up with imperious Man City at last

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern could not be happier with their start to the season under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City continued their astounding opening to the season with a 17th straight victory in all competitions against Feyenoord at the Etihad yesterday evening. The victory confirmed that City will progress to the knockout stages of the competition as winners of Group F after an uncharacteristically comfortable group campaign for Guardiola’s side.

With City looking almost untouchable right now they will certainly be starting to dream of a Champions League final in Ukraine next May.

However, City’s hopes and dreams of silverware this season will be scuppered if reports in The Daily Star linking Kevin De Bryune with a move to Real Madrid prove to be true.

Indeed, The Citizens propping up the bar here cannot express the Belgians importance to the club highly enough, and they are fully aware that his departure would have catastrophic consequences for their aspirations this season.

De Bryune is the engine-room at the heart of the Manchester City midfield and his ability to bring out the best qualities in the players around him is unrivalled in European football.

A transfer that saw De Bruyne swap City for Real in January would shift the dynamic in Manchester and give United a significant advantage in their pursuit of City at the top of the table.

Although every one of City’s players are worthy of the plaudits they have received so far this season, they would not be in the commanding position they find themselves in without the presence of their Belgian magician.

The title-race hinges on De Bruyne’s future at the club, and City must do everything in their power to retain his services if they wish to lift the Premier League trophy this season.
