Unsung Hero: Leeds United’s Stuart Dallas goes unnoticed in thrilling draw against Cardiff City
Leeds United surrendered a three-goal lead as Cardiff City came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against the Whites, with one player managing to go unnoticed.
The Yorkshire side got off to a superb start as Helder Costa scored the opening goal in just the sixth minute of the game (via BBC).
Patrick Bamford soon made it 2-0 when he scored from close range following a cross from Stuart Dallas.
The Englishman was then on hand to make it 3-0 when ‘keeper Neil Ethridge brought him down as he struck home the resulting penalty.
However, it all went pear-shaped in the second half when goals from Lee Tomlin, Sean Morrison and Robert Glatzel saw the Bluebirds make an unlikely comeback, despite the side having Morrison sent-off in the 86th minute.
Bamford was on fire for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as his brace continued his rich vein of form. The 26-year-old has now scored five goals and assisted one in his last seven Championship games (via Transfermarkt).
However, it was Dallas, who proved to remain anonymous with his performance at left-back for Bielsa’s side.
The Northern Irish defender proved to be a force going forward and at the back, having the joint-second most shots on goal (3), playing the joint-second most key passes (3) and making the joint-third most tackles (2) in the team (via WhoScored).
Leeds Live agreed with this assessment of Dallas’ performance as they gave him a seven out of 10, commenting on the two sides of his game.
They said: “Like Ayling, given licence to get forward and hurt Cardiff. Had the quick feet which won a 50-50 to launch the attack which led to the penalty.
