It’s been a relatively quite afternoon in the Football Transfer Tavern but a group of Arsenal supporters sat in the corner are making a large amount of noise. The inquisitive landlord goes over to find out what all the fuss is about to discover that the Gunners fans are crowded around a phone watching footage of Arsenal legend Robert Pires.
However it’s not a moment from his superb career, with his ability to create a chance out of nothing or his sublime skills but a hilarious moment off-the-field against the white half of North London.
The clip – from 2007 as Arsenal met fierce rivals Tottenham in a Premier League game at White Hart Lane, when the ball ends up in the Spurs crowd, the swashbuckling Frenchman decides to take the law into his own hands. Pires waits to receive the ball back when it is launched in his face with a lot of venom, it is then again fired at him but he managed to deflect it away before then brilliantly feigned throwing the ball back at the hostile crowd. Referee Jeff Winter comes to calm the situation down and has a few words with Pires but the moment was already filed into history.
I bet Arsenal fans would like to see that sort of commitment and passion from their current set of players!
