There were gasps of disbelief around the Football Transfer Tavern as footage of this X-rated challenge from Brazil was broadcast on the plasma screens fixed above the bar.
Brazilian superstar and persistent threat Ronaldinho has probably been the victim of a late tackle or two during his distinguished career but this was on another level as the former Barcelona man was extremely lucky to escape serious injury after nearly being scythed in half by a horrendous two-footed tackle on Monday.
Playing for current club Atletico Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores, Ronaldinho was launched at by Arsenal de Sarandi defender Diego Braghieri in the dying stages of a comprehensive 5-2 victory for Ron’s side.
Fortunately for Ronaldinho the only contact from the possible career threatening tackle by the Argentinean was square on his shin and he was therefore protected by shin-pads.
Quite amazingly the referee adjudged that the despicable challenge by Braghieri didn’t even warrant a yellow card, let alone a red card as he just awarded a penalty kick to Mineiro.
To rub further salt into the wounds the star midfielder proceeded to smash the resulting penalty against the crossbar and over after somehow walking away from the assault unhurt.
Take a look at the horror tackle for yourself below.
