The Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still raising glasses to their new hero, Alexandre Lacazette, after the Frenchman joined from Lyon earlier this week, however, they are hoping more will follow.
It seems, too, that manager Arsene Wenger shares their hope with reports from French newspaper L’Equipe claiming that the Gunners boss has lodged an increased bid to land Monaco star Thomas Lemar.
Having seen an initial bid of €40m with add-ons snubbed by the French champions, the north Londoners have returned with an increased €45m (£40m) offer, although it comes nowhere near the £80m asking price being reported by some outlets.
Punters here in the Tavern are dubious as to whether or not Wenger would break the record fee set by the Lacazette deal to bring in Lemar, however, the general consensus is that at least another one big name signing needs to be landed this summer if the club are to get their overhaul ticking.
Having brought in Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac already, our landlord is expecting another two or three deals from the Gunners boss before the close of the window.
