Wenger plotting major Arsenal changes this month as he looks to get his team back on track – report

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Arsene Wenger to make some big moves this month. The Gunners are really struggling at present, and their problems were compounded over the weekend – with Nottingham Forest embarrassing the London side. They were knocked out of the FA Cup as a result, and so for Arsene Wenger, the second-half of the campaign is absolutely crucial.

It will come as no real surprise, then, to learn that the Frenchman is planning big things for the month of January. According to Goal, Wenger is ready to launch a ‘firesale’ at Arsenal – with the manager keen to clear out a number of players currently at the Emirates. The likes of Mathieu Debuchy, Joel Campbell and Alexis Sanchez are being mooted for a departure, whilst West Brom defender Jonny Evans is a key target of the Gunners. What’s more, both Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil have apparently been offered proposals as Arsenal look to renew their deals – signalling just who Wenger wants to keep at the club.

That’s a lot for Arsenal fans to take in, but it is clear that it is what is needed. There are a number of players that are, for one reason or another, simply not performing well enough, and Wenger is right to take action.

The topic of Alexis Sanchez is, of course, a touchy one for Arsenal, but a move away from the club is now beginning to look likely.

Clearly, then, Arsenal’s team could look very different come February 1st. A host of players could leave, a couple of players could be close to signing new deals, whilst perhaps a few new faces – notably Jonny Evans – could be coming in. It’s all change at the Emirates, it seems.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is just what Arsenal need. The Gunners have been stumbling for what feels like a few years, and much of that has been down to the number of poor players at the Emirates. Arsenal have always had a big squad, but a lack of overall quality is what has separated them from the likes of Man City and Chelsea in recent years.

Significantly, a few major sales should give Arsenal a bit of money to play with, and so Wenger could look to bring in a player or two beyond Evans. This could be key, but it’s important that they invest in quality, rather than quantity.

This is positive news for Arsenal.
