According to reports in Spain, Arsene Wenger has ‘made enquiries’ about Sevilla’s star wide-man Jesus Navas, who would be expected to command a €35m fee, should he move to the Premier League.
The Spanish winger, whose dribbling and crossing skills have made him one of the hottest properties on the international transfer market, would become Arsenal’s record signing should the transfer go through in the summer. A verbal deal is believed to have been agreed between Navas’s representatives and Arsenal in September, with further discussions to seal the deal in the pipeline.
At 25 and with a burgeoning international career, 11 caps, Navas has just the right mixture of experience and youth to make him a potential mainstay for Arsenal for many years. The fleet-footed Spaniard has the pace and skill to fit into Wenger’s attacking formation and, with an outstanding record of assists, he would no doubt provide the sort of service that the likes of Van Persie relish.
The deal would however be something of a departure for Wenger, whose traditional unwillingness to spend big money would have to be set aside in order to capture the tricky winger, who has a €35m buyout clause in his Sevilla contract. Look out for more on this story in the coming months.
