Chelsea head into the London derby with Arsenal this afternoon full of confidence following their impressive start to the Premier League campaign and midweek hammering of Qarabag in the Champions League.
Blues manager Antonio Conte has got his team looking like what we saw last season, and his new additions from the summer transfer window appear to be bedding in nicely at the Bridge.
Our landlord here in the Tavern is buzzing for the game with the Gunners today, but can see only one outcome if Chelsea play to their strengths, and that is a hammering of Arsene Wenger’s men.
Chelsea play with an intensity which is unmatched in the Premier League and manager Conte demands – and gets – 100% from his players throughout the 90 minutes. It is this playing style which will overwhelm Arsenal today, much like it did in the corresponding fixture last season.
The Blues have also got a returning Eden Hazard to come into the fray. The Belgian, seemingly recovered from his injuries now is a huge boost to any team, and last season he was the difference maker in this fixture in particular.
Arsenal’s defence simply will not have the capacity to live with Hazard, Pedro, and the ever improving Alvaro Morata and the result at the Bridge should be a formality. It will take a huge effort from the Gunners to even take a point, but even that looks an unlikely scenario.
