Why David Moyes is the man to turn Sunderland back around

The Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to think that their side is doomed this season, but all is not lost…

Sunderland are, certainly, in a perilous position in the Premier League. They are 19th in the Premier League, and have looked lifeless in recent weeks – leaving many to fear that relegation is inevitable this season.

David Moyes has been under some harsh criticism in the Tavern in recent weeks, with many suggesting that he isn’t good enough – but the Scotsman is, quite clearly, the right man for the job.

Moyes’ record speaks for itself, and whilst he has struggled recently – he is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most successful managers. At Everton, he built a dynasty that has led the side into a renewed period of success – and he can do the same at Sunderland.

Sure, he struggled at both Real Sociedad and Man Utd – but retrospectively, those jobs were always doomed to be failures. Real Sociedad was Moyes’ first appointment away from the UK, and he was always going to find it hard to adjust. In retrospect, Moyes’ tenure at Man Utd wasn’t as bad as first feared – with both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho both struggling since his departure.

If Sunderland are relegated, they need a manager that is experienced at building a side from the ground up – and Moyes certainly has that experience. Let’s say that the side are relegated and Moyes is sacked – who else would want to take on that job? The Black Cats have just about escaped relegation for years, and it has always been coming.

In truth, Sunderland are only a few points away from safety, and all is not lost. Moyes could yet turn things around, but if he doesn’t – the Sunderland brass need to ensure that they don’t panic. The Scottish boss is the perfect man for the job.
