The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are divided on reports linking their side with a move for Joe Hart…
According to the Daily Record, Man Utd are lining up Joe Hart as a replacement for David De Gea this summer, should the Spaniard depart, and whilst there are a number of vocal opposers to this move in the Transfer Tavern – our landlord actually thinks that it is a deal that makes a lot of sense.
Sure, Hart was thrust out of the picture by Pep Guardiola last summer, but that was for a very specific reason. The Spaniard was insistent on having a ball-playing goalkeeper – but this is not a trait that Jose Mourinho favours at the back. Instead, the Man Utd boss prioritises goalkeeping solidity – and Hart has that in droves.
It is easy to forget, but Hart was a near-constant for Man City prior to the arrival of Guardiola – and that was during a period of sustained dominance. Throughout all of the Citizens’ success in the modern era, the one constant that has remained throughout up until this point is Hart.
Sure, he has had moments of inconsistency, but for the most part – he is solid. Dominant in the air, agile and a strong shot stopper, there isn’t really any weaknesses to Hart’s game. What’s more, any form that he had lost has been swiftly regained whilst on loan in Italy, and the English goalkeeper certainly looks ready to turn out for a much bigger side than Torino.
Of course, this is all hypothetical, and it all depends on whether David De Gea leaves the club this summer. If Man Utd can hang on to him, then Hart won’t be a necessary signing. But if they are forced to sell – there is nobody better than the English veteran.
