Now that the managers game of musical chairs has almost finished in the Premiership with only Daniel Levy left trying to make a decision on whether he wants to go for Portuguese ego or Scottish realism, one of the new managers has decided to take action and bring in some new recruits.
Paul Lambert has identified his first transfer target and his name is Ibrahima Balde. Currently at Osasuna, the 23 year old is another member of the Senegal strike force that includes Newcastle duo Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba.
At 6ft 2in his aerial abilities are his main weapon for attack and if the reports in The Sun are true then Lambert will surely be looking to make Balde his main target man.
With youth on his side he could form a formidable partnership with the lightning fast Gabby Agbonlahor and has a release clause in his contract for around £8 million.
This may seem steep to Lambert who is used to foraging through the lower leagues to find some potential talent but now he is at a team that was challenging for Champions League only a few years a go so will have to get used to spending a bit more.
There is considerable risk surrounding this potential transfer due to the players age and the price tag attached to him but then again you always do have risk surrounding transfers in the Premiership. Whether or not these rumours will fabricate into an actual deal could hinge upon Grant Holt’s decision on whether he will leave the Canaries or not but I would not be surprised to see the young striker arrive at our shores soon.
Another Premiership team looking to bolster there front line for the future is Fulham. The Daily Mail has suggested that ex-Blackburn reserve star – if there is such a thing – Toni Vastic has got Martin Jol’s tail wagging so much that an enquiry has been submitted to current club Bayern Munich.
With loan star Pavel Pogrebnyak on course to join Reading and Andy Johnson joining QPR on a free, Martin Jol must reinforce his attacking options and the 19 year old is the player he has moved for first.
Martin Jol must have seen something in the youngster as it will take an audacious bid to lure him away from the youth system of one of Europe’s elite with a loan deal perhaps the more realistic.
Jol has shown that he can get the best out of relatively unheard of players at Fulham with Bryan Ruiz, Orlando Sa, Kerim Frei and Pajtim Kasami all impressing at times last season. The fact that Jol is reported to have made an enquiry hints that he isn’t confident that a move is on for Vastic but if you don’t ask you don’t get.
Finally on the transfer radar The Sun has reported that Everton defender Joseph Yobo is ready to make his two year loan spell at Fenerbahce permanent for £1.5 million. David Moyes has three solid centre backs in John Heitinga, Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka, so it’s not surprising that Moyes wants this transfer to go through in order to get some pocket money for the summer sales.
This looks like a formality and I imagine Yobo will be happy to be an official Fenerbahce player after spending 2 years in the first team.
