# Unsung Hero: Eden Hazard clinches MOTM award, but Karim Benzema was the real star of the show

**Real Madrid were in goalscoring form last night as the defeated Leganes 5-0 at the Bernabeu to retain pressure on pack-leaders Barcelona, who sit at the top of [La Liga](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/spanish-la-liga/table) by a single point after 10 games.**

Goals from Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Rodrygo and Luka Jovic sealed a comfortable victory for Zinedine Zidane’s men on home turf, with the latter of those aforementioned names finally opening his account following his [£54m move](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luka-jovic/profil/spieler/257462) to the Spanish capital during the summer.

Eden Hazard scooped the coveted [Man of the Match](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/50201018) award for a classy display which saw him bag an assist, though it was another player who probably deserved it for his contribution last night.

Striker Karim Benzema scored his [seventh](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/karim-benzema/profil/spieler/18922) league goal of the campaign under the lights of the Bernabeu, helping his side return to winning ways in the domestic league following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mallorca last time out.

The 31-year-old achieved an overall match rating of 9.06/10 by [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1394228/LiveStatistics/Spain-LaLiga-2019-2020-Real-Madrid-Leganes), having scored once, taken 5 shots on goal, executed 3 successful key passes and acquired a pass completion rate of 92.6%.

The Frenchman also chipped in with his defensive duties by making 1 interception and 1 clearance last night, while he also produced 2 successful crosses (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1394228/LiveStatistics/Spain-LaLiga-2019-2020-Real-Madrid-Leganes)).

Hazard’s performance was also impressive, with the Belgian registering an overall rating of [8.71](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1394228/LiveStatistics/Spain-LaLiga-2019-2020-Real-Madrid-Leganes), though it was perhaps harsh that Benzema did not get all the plaudits for a magnificent display for Los Blancos.

Madrid will be looking to continue with their fine form when they host Real Betis this weekend; if Benzema finds himself in similar form to his performance last night, it could be a long evening for Los Verdiblancos in Madrid.
