# Unsung Hero: Leeds United’s Stuart Dallas goes under the radar in win over Middlesbrough

**Leeds United beat Middlesbrough 1-0 to earn their third win on the bounce and secure their spot in second-place with one player going under the radar with his performance.**

Mateusz Klich scored the only goal of the game when he saw a good effort go in off the far post after Pablo Hernandez had struck the upright with a low drive [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51533048). Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and the Spanish playmaker were all denied by fine saves from Boro ‘keeper [Aynsley Pears](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51533048) as the Yorkshire outfit looked to extend the lead.

Klich wasn’t just the match-winner, but also one of the most influential players in attack. The Poland international played the joint-most key passes (3) and had the third-most shots at goals (1) [(via WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1381685/LiveStatistics/England-Championship-2019-2020-Middlesbrough-Leeds). He also proved to be a huge figure in Leeds’ defensive game as he made the joint-most tackles (6), showing his quality at the back.

However, our unsung hero proved to be [Stuart Dallas](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1381685/LiveStatistics/England-Championship-2019-2020-Middlesbrough-Leeds), who was effective at both ends of the pitch during the encounter with Jonathan Woodgate’s side. As well as having the [joint-second most shots on goals (2) and playing the second-most key passes](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1381685/LiveStatistics/England-Championship-2019-2020-Middlesbrough-Leeds) (1), the Northern Ireland international also made a [mammoth seven interceptions, blocked the joint-most shots (2) and made the joint-second most clearances (2)](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1381685/LiveStatistics/England-Championship-2019-2020-Middlesbrough-Leeds).

Indeed, performances such as this one – impacting the game at both ends – are the kind of performances that Leeds’ promotion push must be based on and, given how involved he was, does suggest the [Bielsa burnout theory](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11715/11663470/marcelo-bielsa8217s-history-of-burnout-is-it-a-myth-about-the-leeds-boss) is not currently applicable.
