# Liverpool: Carragher compares Coady to van Dijk

**Jamie Carragher has said that former Red Conor Coady is as good at passing the ball out from the back as Virgil van Dijk.**

The Wolves captain left Liverpool for [£500,000](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2718433/Conor-Coady-signs-Huddersfield-Town-Liverpool-500-000.html) to join Huddersfield in 2014 before making the move to Molineux a year later. Since then, he has been a rock at the heart of the Midlands outfit’s defence, indeed he has played in [every single Premier League match](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-coady/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/128901) since the start of last season.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, is arguably the best centre-back on the planet – as per last year’s [Ballon d’Or rankings](https://metro.co.uk/2019/12/02/full-ballon-dor-ranking-2019-lionel-messi-wins-award-sets-new-record-11257792/) – but former Reds star Carragher believes Coady and the Netherlands international are on the same level in terms of their passing ability.

Writing in his recent column for [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/29327/11968455/jamie-carraghers-premier-league-team-of-the-season), the ex-England defender said: “Conor Coady has also done brilliantly for Wolves; he has not missed a minute this season and is probably as good as anyone alongside Van Dijk in terms of passing from the back.”

Whilst Coady has been an ever-present for Nuno Espirito Santo this term, it is perhaps a little much to compare him to the 28-year-old.

In the top tier, the former has an average pass accuracy of [84.1%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97710/Show/Conor-Coady), which is dwarfed by the latter’s [89.2%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/95408/Show/Virgil-van-Dijk). Van Dijk also has more key passes per game, with 0.2 compared to zero – in this department, like in so many others, it is the Liverpool man who leads the way. Carragher may want to look at the stats a little more closely.
