# Leeds: Whites firmly in Viktor Gyokeres transfer race

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) are involved in the race to sign Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres, according to [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/leeds-united/exclusive-whites-firmly-involved-transfer-chase-67-goal-striker-everton-join-hunt-tempting-swap).**

### The Lowdown: Striker search?

The Whites appear to be on the hunt for a new striker after securing the services of versatile defender Max Wober last week.

[Jesse Marsch](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/jesse-marsch/) has once again been without [Patrick Bamford](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/patrick-bamford/) for large parts of the season, with [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-patrick-bamford-set-for-extended-spell-out-in-new-leeds-united-blow/) even claiming that the forward has suffered another injury setback.

[Rodrigo](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/rodrigo/) netted his [10th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrigo/leistungsdaten/spieler/131505) goal of the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) season in midweek, but it appears as if attacking reinforcements are on the agenda at Elland Road this month.

### The Latest: Leeds could spend £14m on Gyokeres

[TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/leeds-united/exclusive-whites-firmly-involved-transfer-chase-67-goal-striker-everton-join-hunt-tempting-swap) provided an update on Gyokeres over the weekend, claiming that Leeds are involved in the bidding for the Sweden international, who [scored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdaten/spieler/325443) in the FA Cup on Saturday.

They said that the Whites ‘are prepared to spend £14m’ on the 24-year-old, who was called ‘[unbelievable](https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-transfers-viktor-gyokeres-24634767)‘ by his manager Mark Robins, although Coventry are holding out for £18m.

### The Verdict: Sign both him and Rutter?

This update on Gyokeres came just hours after [interest](https://twitter.com/plettigoal/status/1611695360585465856?s=46&t=gAKBJ5_FpxNOUs1FzD7giA) emerged in Hoffenheim’s Georginio Rutter, and you could make an argument that both strikers are required at Elland Road.

Leeds’ attacking options are limited at this moment in time, which has resulted in Marsch relying heavily on youngsters [Wilfried Gnonto](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wilfried-gnonto/leistungsdaten/spieler/627626) and [Crysencio Summerville](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crysencio-summerville/leistungsdaten/spieler/474701) out wide, while Rodrigo is the only experienced centre-forward available due to Bamford’s ongoing injury problems.

Rutter is an out-and-out [centre-forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-rutter/profil/spieler/538977) and is still young at the age of 20, whereas Gyokeres is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/profil/spieler/325443) a striker but can also play out wide if needed and has more experience at the age of 24, so it could make sense for Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers to try and land both forwards in the coming days.
