# Aston Villa: Fans react to Kasper Hjulmand links

**Aston Villa reportedly now want to bring in Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand to replace Dean Smith, according to Alan Nixon of [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/16658893/aston-villa-kasper-hjulmand-denmark-dean-smith/).**

As to be expected, the latest managerial link has had a number of Villa fans talking on social media.

Smith was [officially sacked](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/november/07/club-statement-dean-smith/) on Sunday following a [fifth](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59086085) defeat on the spin, with the Villa board now on the lookout for a new boss.

The likes of [Paulo Fonseca](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10154213/Aston-Villa-make-informal-contact-Paulo-Fonseca-pressure-mounting-Dean-Smith.html) and [Lucien Favre](https://twitter.com/alfonso_leocad/status/1456755183162118145?s=21) are two other names who are thought to be of interest to NSWE, and Hjulmand is the latest addition to that list.

[Nixon](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/16658893/aston-villa-kasper-hjulmand-denmark-dean-smith/) led with a headline on Saturday night claiming that Villa want Hjulmand to replace the under-pressure Smith, with the 49-year-old labelled as [‘world-class’](https://www.cityam.com/meet-kasper-hjulmand-the-tactical-geek-football-idealist-and-world-class-coach-of-denmark-plotting-england-exit-in-euro-2020-semi-finals/) by his former FC Nordsjaelland employer Tom Vernon.

Hjulmand likes to play an attacking [4-3-3](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) formation and has won [16](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) of his [23](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) games as Denmark boss, guiding them to the [Euro 2020 semi-finals](https://www.cityam.com/meet-kasper-hjulmand-the-tactical-geek-football-idealist-and-world-class-coach-of-denmark-plotting-england-exit-in-euro-2020-semi-finals/) in the wake of Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest. However, his only experience as a club manager in a top European league came with Bundesliga side Mainz back in 2014, where he lasted just [231](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) days, winning [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) of his [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kasper-hjulmand/stationen/trainer/5372/plus/1) games.
