# Aston Villa: Fans unhappy at reported asking price for exit-linked Frederic Guilbert

**Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to a transfer [report claiming](https://t.co/nFdp5DipyN?amp=1) that an asking price has been set for Frederic Guilbert to leave the club.**

After securing their top flight status last season with a final day draw against West Ham United, the Midlands side are now preparing for a second consecutive season in the Premier League.

Manager Dean Smith is expected to make several changes to his squad and utilise the transfer window, and the arrival of [Matty Cash has strengthened the club’s defensive backline.](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12062227/matty-cash-aston-villa-sign-full-back-from-nottingham-forest)

That has left Guilbert’s chances of finding first team football at Villa Park significantly reduced and [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transferts-frederic-guilbert-aston-villa-pousse-vers-la-sortie/1167429#xtor=RSS-1) have since claimed that the Frenchman has been ‘pushed’ towards an exit by the club. Guilbert joined Aston Villa from Caen last summer and made [25 Premier League appearances in his first season in England.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frederic-guilbert/leistungsdaten/spieler/354352)

Following on from that report, further claims have now been made that Villa have set an [asking price of €5m (£4.52m)](https://t.co/nFdp5DipyN?amp=1) for the defender.

Reacting to the report via Twitter, many Villa fans gave their opinion on Guilbert’s potential exit…

> I don’t see the issue with Guilbert. I like him, his season was broken up through injury. I think he’s got potential.
