# Aston Villa: Fans react to transfer update from Gregg Evans

**Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to a claim made by [The Athletic’s Gregg Evans](https://theathletic.com/2001585/), who said that Brentford striker Ollie Watkins remains top of Dean Smith’s striker wish-list.**

The Bees forward has been in excellent form over the last 12 months for the Championship side, netting [25 goals and supplying three assists in 46 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ollie-watkins/profil/spieler/324358) during the 2019/20 season.

After missing out on the chance to gain promotion to the Premier League following defeat to Fulham in the play-off final, the 24-year-old is now [subject](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12047219/aston-villa-prepare-opening-bid-for-brentfords-ollie-watkins) to interest from Villa.

Valued at [£10.8m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ollie-watkins/profil/spieler/324358), the striker, who was [signed](https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2017/july/watkins-signs/) by Smith at Griffin Park, is said to be top of the manager’s transfer wish-list, as claimed by Evans.

Villa, who struggled to find a regular goalscorer last term [apart from Jack Grealish](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/leistungsdaten/verein/405), are now seemingly in the market for a new forward, and many fans have reacted to the claim which was shared by Twitter account @villareport.

Here is a selection of the feedback from the Aston Villa faithful:

> Why can’t we just pay the money and get the Watkins deal done as a priority, don’t want to risk losing out.

> What happened to them saying they wanted premiership experience throughout, not just a keeper?
