# Aston Villa: Fans rip into Danny Ings v Chelsea

**A number of Aston Villa fans were critical of Danny Ings’ performance in their Boxing Day defeat against Chelsea.**

The home side [took the lead](https://www.skysports.com/football/aston-villa-vs-chelsea/live/446468) through a Reece James own goal but two penalties from Jorginho either side of a Romelu Lukaku strike consigned Villa to defeat against Thomas Tuchel’s men.

On an evening when Villa failed to fire in front of goal, their [£25m summer signing](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58093362) had a game to forget, his barren streak now standing at just one goal in his last 11 Premier League matches, having scored in both of his first two top-flight appearances for the club ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/leistungsdaten/spieler/134294)).

As per [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/aston-villa-chelsea/NP), the 29-year-old completed only 12 passes and had just 24 touches – the fewest of any Villa starter for both metrics – while also losing three of his four duels (75%) and failing to record a shot on target before he was withdrawn in the 73rd minute at Villa Park.
