# Manchester United: Fabrizio Romano reveals Diogo Dalot contract talks ‘soon’

**Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are now set to hold talks ‘soon’ over extending the contract of Diogo Dalot.**

### The Lowdown: Out of contract

Dalot’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the [summer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-dalot/profil/spieler/357147), meaning that he can leave as a free agent, or sign for another club for a cut-price in the January transfer window.

The right-back has come off the back of an impressive FIFA World Cup with Portugal, where he ranked as their second-best performer as he made three appearances on their way to reaching the quarter-finals ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/340/Show/Portugal-Portugal)).

### The Latest: Talks ‘soon’

Taking to Twitter, [Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1604934045384712206) has revealed that talks will take place ‘soon’ over extending Dalot’s contract, and he adds that fellow right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be allowed to leave in January:

*“Manchester United are trying to find a solution for Wan-Bissaka in order to let him leave. Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace remain interested.*

*“Main priority on right-back situation remains to extend Dalot’s contract. Talks will take place soon.”*

### The Verdict: Deserved

Dalot is certainly deserving of a new contract, given his recent performances for Portugal and the start to the season that he made with United.

The 23-year-old has played in every game that he has been available so far under Erik ten Hag ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-dalot/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/357147/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), showing just how much his new manager trusts him.

On a mere [£25,000-per-week](https://fbref.com/en/squads/19538871/2022-2023/wages/Manchester-United-Wage-Details), he is one of the lowest-paid players in the Red Devils squad, and is deserved of a big salary increase.

In contrast, Wan-Bissaka, who earns [£90,ooo-per-week](https://fbref.com/en/squads/19538871/2022-2023/wages/Manchester-United-Wage-Details), has only played [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/477758/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) minutes of senior football so far this term, and is in need of a move away.

The Englishman has unfortunately failed to live up to his huge [£50m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11749756/manchester-united-sign-aaron-wan-bissaka-on-five-year-deal-from-crystal-palace) price tag from 2019, and getting him off of the wage bill would help fund Dalot’s new deal.
