# Wayne Rooney’s Top 10

[![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/41086030_rooney-150x150.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/41086030_rooney.jpg)Wayne Rooney has had some real criticism volleyed his way over the past couple of weeks for his subpar performances so far in England’s dour World Cup campaign. Not only is he currently experiencing his most barren England goal-scoring form, his industry, quality and sharpness are a shadow of what his club and country have witnessed of him earlier in the season.

So, in a vain attempt to jolt depressed England supporters back into an optimistic mood, the Tavern has decided to stitch together memories of what this world class player can really do.

Here are Wayne’s top ten goals:

**10. Everton vs Arsenal**

‘Remember the name: Wayne Rooney.’ We just about managed that.

**9. Man Utd vs Fenerbache**

There aren’t many players in history who have scored a hat-trick on their Champions League debut. So, take your pick out of these three.

**8. England vs Russia**

Undoubtedly the finest goal Rooney has scored in his international career. A long-ball, miraculously headed onward by the diminutive Michael Owen. Rooney receives the ball on his chest with a one-touch control before volleying the ball into the top corner.

**7. Man Utd vs Middlesbrough**

In many ways similar to his goal against Russia: long-ball, header on, volley. He doesn’t even need to control it this time.

**6. Man Utd vs Arsenal**

A goal that began with an Arsenal corner. Rooney lays it off for Nani who sprints the length of the pitch and finds Rooney waiting in the box to finish

**5. Man Utd vs Bolton**

Another counter-attack neatly finished by Rooney. The cheeky chip just about edges this video ahead of the goal against Arsenal.

**4. Man Utd vs Middlesbrough**

The pass, the run, the foresight of the keeper’s position and the inch-perfect lob. How England could use that combination against Slovenia…

**3. Man Utd vs Arsenal**

A magnificent long-range cross followed by a first class touch that stops the ball perfectly for the half-volley.

**2. Man Utd vs Portsmouth**

A superb chip over David James. Sublime.

**1. Man Utd vs Newcastle**

This incredible strike would top almost anyone’s greatest hits.
