# West Brom: Andre Ayew’s wage demands end Baggies transfer pursuit

**West Bromwich Albion will not make a move for Swansea City attacker [Andre Ayew](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship/leeds-united/leeds-united-fans-in-disbelief-over-links-with-swansea-citys-andre-ayew/) who is demanding a wage packet of £90,000-per-week, according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/).**

Despite spending [£22.3m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/transfers/verein/984) this summer in the European transfer window on the likes of Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson, Bilic is yet to bring in a recognised centre-forward.

The Baggies’ current strikers Hal-Robson Kanu, Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore have all struggled of late, with [none of them scoring in the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/leistungsdaten/verein/984/plus/0?reldata=GB1%262020) since their top-flight return.

### Interest shown in Andre Ayew; wages end potential move

Looking back to the Championship for a new striker, the Baggies have been linked with Huddersfield front man [Karlan Grant](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/west-brom-baggies-fans-react-to-15m-karlan-grant-claim/) with a move expected before this evening’s 5pm deadline.

Interest in Swansea attacker Ayew has also emerged, with the Ghanaian having performed well last season in the Championship by netting [15 goals and claiming seven assists.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-ayew/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/45403)

However, a potential move for the 30-year-old is now seemingly over after [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/) (15 October, page 53) claimed the former Marseille man was demanding in the region of £90,000-a-week to move to The Hawthorns.

### Baggies simply can’t break the bank for Andre Ayew

If West Brom were to make a move for Ayew, it would make the Ghana international the club’s highest-paid player, with Charlie Austin currently the biggest earner on £70,000 per week, according to [Spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/west-bromwich-albion-fc/payroll/). Bilic would likely need to sell off a number of his players to allow a deal for Ayew to go through and that is not going to happen so late in the transfer window.

Ayew is no doubt a talent and you could argue that he should be playing Premier League football, especially after substantial praise from Swansea manager Steve Cooper, who recently said that the attacker’s work-rate was an ‘[important](https://www.swanseacity.com/news/andre-ayew-showed-his-toughness-says-cooper)‘ asset to his side.

Despite that, wage demands totalling £4.6m per year are highly unlikely to tempt a Premier League side to make a move for the 30-year-old before this evening’s deadline.
