# Glasgow Rangers: Wes Foderingham hits out at Steven Gerrard

**Wes Foderingham has hit out at the way he was treated by Steven Gerrard during his time at Ibrox.**

The 29-year-old goalkeeper was recently [released](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/11991219/rangers-andy-halliday-jon-flanagan-and-wes-foderingham-among-six-players-leaving-club) by the Gers after spending five years at the club. In the first three campaigns, all before Gerrard’s arrival in 2018, he made at least [30](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wes-foderingham/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/61697) appearances in the league, but in the last two seasons he has seen his playing time considerably reduced – he has played just 13 times in all competitions since the new manager came in, with Allan McGregor instead earning the number one spot.

Talking to The Open Goal Podcast ([via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11998912/steven-gerrard-told-me-i-wasnt-his-type-of-person-says-departing-rangers-keeper-wes-foderingham)), Foderingham said of his time under Gerrard:

> *“When McGregor came in, it was always the club’s intention to sell me that summer. I was never told that but that’s what happened, I got a call from my agent.*
>
> *“I found it strange. I had a meeting with the manager and he said I wasn’t his type of person, which I found quite strange.*
>
> *“He didn’t go into any great depth but he just kind of questioned my willingness to fight for a position, which I don’t think I showed anything to suggest I wasn’t happy to fight for my place. I have fought for my place my whole career.*
>
> *“The decision was made and at this point I wasn’t even training with the main team. I trained with the goalies but when we went into the main session I had to stay over. I couldn’t believe what was happening. But sometimes a manager doesn’t take a liking to you.”*

This is one of the hazards of the footballing world. One manager may be a huge fan of yours, but as soon as a new boss enters the fold, everything is reset and you must once again prove yourself. Perhaps Gerrard was a little hard on Foderingham in this case – he at least deserved a chance to prove himself.

Still, at 29, there is plenty more time for the former Swindon Town man to find another club who want him more than the ex-Liverpool captain did.
