[According to The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-broms-transfer-stance-newcastle-19429349), the Baggies remain interested in the striker as his contract at Newcastle United [approaches its end](https://www.transfermarkt.com/dwight-gayle/profil/spieler/196522) – he will become a free agent at the end of this current campaign if he does not sign a new deal with the Magpies.

Gayle spent the 2018/19 term on loan with West Brom when they were in the Championship, and he enjoyed a prolific campaign. In [39](https://www.transfermarkt.com/dwight-gayle/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/196522) games in the second tier, he scored 23 goals and provided a further eight assists before returning to St. James’ Park.
