# West Brom: Baggies eyeing Michael Carrick

**[West Brom](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-brom-news/) are interested in potentially bringing Michael Carrick to The Hawthorns, according to [Scott Wilson](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/23036732.middlesbrough-west-brom-interested-michael-carrick/).**

### The Lowdown: Bruce finally gone

The Baggies decided to part ways with Steve Bruce on Monday following a woeful start to the season. The club remain in the [Championship](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship-news/) [relegation zone](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) after drawing 0-0 with Luton Town at the weekend.

Bruce won just [one](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) of the opening [13](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) league games, with owner Guochuan Lai finally deciding to call time on his tenure in the Midlands, leaving chief executive Ron Gourlay on the hunt for a new manager.

### The Latest: Carrick interest

Reliable reporter Wilson shared a story for [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/23036732.middlesbrough-west-brom-interested-michael-carrick/) on Monday afternoon regarding Carrick.

He said that both Middlesborough and West Brom are interested in the 41-year-old, who is ‘keen’ to step into management after a caretaker role at Manchester United last year, with Boro already holding preliminary discussions with the former England midfielder.

### The Verdict: A gamble?

As mentioned, Carrick has never been a permanent first-team manager, so you could say that it could be a risky appointment with the Baggies currently in the bottom three.

Carrick likes to play a 4-1-4-1 system, according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-carrick/stationen/trainer/65647/plus/1), and previously assisted both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, so one would expect him to set up deep and depend largely on counter-attacks.

He won [two of his three games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-carrick/stationen/trainer/65647/plus/1) as caretaker of Manchester United and it looks as if a move to the Championship is a real possibility with either West Brom or Boro, but you have to wonder if the Baggies need a more experienced head.
